The project consists of a social reintegration program for Indian women survivors of acid attacks not only by funding their surgeries (unfortunately many and expensive for each victim), but also by giving psychological support and supporting job training for victims.
The initiative also targets the children of survivors, if any, who need help with education. A recent survey found that 85 percent of those scarred with acid are female and the remaining 15 percent are identified as the children of these women.
The recently recorded data on the phenomenon of acid attacks, are a sum of various sources-independent agencies, small communities, hospitals, the victims, women’s communities, skin-banking units-all of which lead to an estimate of at least 450 cases throughout India, but the actual number may exceed 1,000 cases.
