KAPISA

Girls can also find a safe place in Kapisa, thanks to the opening of the region’s first girls’ orphanage

THE FIRST AND ONLY PUBLIC ORPHANAGE FOR GIRLS OPENS IN KAPISA, AFGHANISTAN

The need for safe places such as orphanages is increasingly important in Afghanistan where, following the Taliban takeover, poverty and insecurity prevail Orphanages play a crucial role in uplifting families who live in extreme poverty and cannot afford to provide for their children’s basic needs by providing shelter, education, and access to care

Therefore, back in 2022, NOVE Caring Humans and OTB Foundation invested resources and funds to reactivate the public boys’ orphanage in Kapisa, Afghanistan’s smallest but densely populated province northeast of Kabul: however, this option was instead precluded for girls, leaving families in extreme poverty and girls exposed to violence and early marriage

Thanks to the Foundation’s support, Nove was able to take up the Ministry of Social Affairs’ proposal to open a girls’ orphanage, and today 50 girls reside in this new facility in Kapisa, receiving not only shelter and food, but access to education, health care, and emotional support
