AN ORPHANAGE FOR GIRLS IN AFGHANISTAN
The need for safe places such as orphanages is increasingly important in Afghanistan where poverty and insecurity prevail following the Taliban’s seizure of power. Orphanages play a crucial role in uplifting families who live in extreme poverty and cannot afford to provide for their children’s basic needs by providing shelter, education and access to care.
Therefore, back in 2022, NOVE Caring Humans and OTB Foundation invested resources and funds to reactivate the public boys’ orphanage in Kapisa, Afghanistan’s smallest but densely populated province northeast of Kabul: however, this option was instead precluded for girls, leaving families in extreme poverty and girls exposed to violence and early marriage.
Subsequently, the Foundation also invested in the opening of the first public orphanage for girls in the Kapisa area, and today it continues its partnership with Nine Caring Humans by supporting a facility in Kabul that supports a total of 111 boys and girls, providing them not only with shelter and food, but access to education, health care and emotional support.
