OTB Foundation supports Fondazione Agostiniani nel Mondo and its Juvenat residential center, where many children find a safe home, the opportunity to train and enter the world of work.
In addition to hospitality, in fact, the project has been enhanced with the possibility of participating in training courses in carpentry and computer science, helping to run a farm with cattle, pig and fish breeding, and, thanks to the work in synergy with local schools, assessing the children’s school reintegration.
There are 196 young people to whom the program has been extended thanks to a grant from OTB Foundation, giving priority to former child soldiers and girls, who are often excluded from this type of activity.
In recent years, the people of Dungu have often been victims of raids by the Ugandan Lord’s Resistance Army, which carries out massacres of innocent civilians, rape and abduction of child soldiers in the region. An estimated 30,000 child soldiers have been recruited in this part of the country, and many are in the hands of various paramilitary groups. Most of them are 8 to 15 years old and 40 percent are girls.
