BANGLADESH

The project was created to implement training opportunities for the children of employees of a local Diesel supplier located in the Tongi Municipality area of Gazipur, a hub of the textile industry

The initiative is implemented by World Vision Bangladesh and is made possible by contributions from Diesel and OTB Foundation.

It is a three-year program that began in September 2023, involving 100 elementary school children whose parents work at local clothing manufacturer PADMA Textiles, which in turn financially supports the program. The goal is to improve their reading and other basic skills by facilitating learning with an educational model that incorporates playful activities and stories, through music and play. It also aims to reduce the dropout rate and improve the overall quality of education for these children by making learning enjoyable and accessible.

The project includes specialized sessions after regular school hours, the use of the learning-by-play model that incorporates play activities and stories to facilitate learning, a targeted two-and-a-half hour daily program three days a week designed to improve phonemic awareness, letter recognition, vocabulary development, reading fluency and comprehension. Activities are always run by experienced facilitators, trained by World Vision’s education program, who lead the sessions for third- and fourth-grade students.
