HOW TO TRANSFORM A REFUGEE CAMP INTO A REAL TRAINING CENTER CONNECTED WITH THE WORLD: OTB FOUNDATION AND VODAFONE FOUNDATION SUPPORT UNHCR

OTB Foundation supports the Instant Network Schools (INS) project, developed by UNHCR in collaboration with Vodafone Foundation, which provides an integrated platform to transform refugee camps into real training centers connected with the world.

An integrated program which includes dedicated teacher training, preparation of digital content aligned with local ministerial programs, so that legally recognized educational qualifications can be issued, the establishment of a complete multimedia environment based on Internet connectivity. The program includes the setting up of a solar power system, the provision of teaching equipment (laptops, speakers and a projector), and a set of tablets.

An expansion of the INS program began in early 2021 and will see an increase in the number of INS schools in Kenya, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo, with a spin-off also in other countries by 2025. The goal is to create another 300 INS schools for the benefit of another 10,000 teachers and 510,000 young refugees. In 2021, 15 new schools are planned in Egypt, 10 in Mozambique and 5 in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
